Council Corner

The Abiding Presence church council met in retreat the past weekend to clarify the vision that God is calling us to follow. Expanding on our stewardship theme from the fall, “Abiding and willing, God’s work, our hands,” we will be pursuing God’s bold vision for our congregation. We are developing a plan to execute “God’s Bold Vision in Burke and Beyond.”

Following Jesus’ instructions in Matthew 9:37-38, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest,” we crafted a strategy to achieve the vision. We will focus our efforts in three ways:

1. Exceptional Worshishp
2. Get Word Out that We Are Welcoming
3. Support and Advocacy for Young Families, Invisible Hurting, and the Homeless

The work has begun. Some programs are already in place, but need expansion and focus; our sanctuary remodeling project is underway; and some new programs need to be started. Our governance documents will be reviewed and revised to support our efforts.
