The Abiding Presence congregation is looking for a 25-30 hour per week Music Minister to provide vision, leadership and coordination of the church’s thriving music ministry. The candidate will be a person of faith who has the breadth of talent to embrace our three styles of worship services: traditional service with choir and organ; the praise service with contemporary music and band; and our Saturday vespers service. The congregation has a wide range of trained instrumental musicians among its membership, including brass, strings, woodwinds and harp who are willing to play individually, in ensembles and together as the Abiding Presence Orchestra. Expectations:

  • An average of 25-30 hours per week
  • Regular office hours (3-4 hours a week) at least one day a week (Monday – Thursday) as negotiated with the Pastor
  • 3 weekly worship services
  • 2 weekly ensemble rehearsals

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as organist for Saturday evening and Sunday traditional worship services, funerals, weddings, midweek Advent services, midweek Lenten services, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday;
  • Recruit, develop, and direct an adult choir that sings weekly at the traditional worship service (weekly rehearsal on Tuesday evenings);
  • Recruit, develop, and direct a praise band for the Sunday praise service (weekly rehearsal on Saturday before evening service). Support the band with vocal support and/or by playing instrumental parts or keyboard as needed;
  • Coordinate the music ministry of the congregation;
  • Move the congregation forward in its goal of exceptional worship;
  • Under the direction of the pastoral staff, assist with planning for worship services and midweek and special services as requested;
  • Select music appropriate for the setting and commensurate with the skill level of each group and individual.
  • Provide support and oversight to the paid Children’s Choir Director and volunteer Hand bell/Chimes Director;
  • Integrate instrumental musicians within the congregation into the worship life of the congregation;
  • Assist the congregation in finding a substitute musician when necessary.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary will be negotiated based on experience
  • Annual continuing education budget of $500 and professional organization dues up to $150
  • Three weeks of vacation annually
  • Weddings and funerals will be compensated at a rate negotiated in advance by the Music Minister and Pastor
